Alita: Battle Angel is an American cyberpunk sci-fi action film released in 2019, based on the OVA of the same name of the manga "Gun Dream" created by Japanese cartoonist Yukito Kijo. The film is directed by Robert Rodriguez, James Cameron co-wrote the screenplay with Rita Kalogridis, and is executive produced by Cameron.

The film is voiced by Rosa Salazar as Alita, a cyborg who wakes up in a new body, ignorant of her past, reborn and begins to face off against incoming enemies one after another, so she sets out to find her own destiny. The other cast members of the film include Christopher Waltz, Jennifer Connelly, Mahershala Ali, Ed Skrein, Michelle Rodriguez, Jackie Earle Haley and Kean Johnson.

The story is told in the future world of 2563 in the 26th century, 300 years after a catastrophic interstellar war called the "War of the Fallen" destroyed the earth, the people living on the earth are affected by the rule of air city "Sarem". One day, while searching for parts in a huge iron city scrap yard, scientist Dr. Dyson Ede found a female robot with a mutilated but still alive and complete head. Dr. Eder fitted that head to a new cyborg body, which he named "Alita" after his late daughter.

Alita, who has a new life, has the same appearance and strength as the late Alita, but she knows nothing about her past. At the same time, she has little contact with Dr. Ede's ex-wife Qian. Dr. Lian knew and dreamed of moving to Hugo, the wealthy sky city "Sarem". Hugo, who met Alita, introduced her to "Motorball," a battle royale racing sport involving cyborgs. Hugo secretly snatches parts of the other robots for Vido, the organizer of the Deathball Championship and the de-facto owner of the Steel City management agency factory. Alita embarks on a journey of her own, facing off against a barrage of formidable synth foes.
